Matt & Phred’s

Manchester | Northern Quarter | | 10/12/2017

This place provides you with everything you would expect from (and dream of) in a Jazz bar. The happy hour is something to shout about too (buy two drinks and get a free pizza!).

Matt and Phred’s, situated in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, welcomes a diverse array of both up-and-coming and well-established Jazz artists to its stage, for you to enjoy for FREE Mon-Thurs. It’s hardly expensive at the weekend either, at just £5 on the door.

I’m not ashamed to admit that it’s my go-to location whenever I have people to visit me in Manchester – it’s a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. You never know quite what you’re going to get and every visit is distinctly unique – particularly the most recent Swedish reggae band my friends and I were treated to. It’s the perfect precursor to a night in the Northern Quarter, getting you in the mood for a boogie on the town (or alternatively, with music finishing at around 11-12pm it’s ideal for a sophisticated weekday evening treat).

Booking a table is highly recommended, as in classic jazz club style, the room is quite long and thin and you don’t want to miss the party at the front!
