Contabo VPS Prices 2026: Cloud VPS, Storage VPS and VDS Compared

Contabo is a hosting provider known for low monthly prices on virtual and dedicated servers (its website says it has been in business for 23 years). Its current lineup has four families: Core VPS (the “Cloud VPS 4–18” plans), Performance VPS (“Cloud VPS Plus”, AMD EPYC with NVMe), Max Performance VPS (the “Cloud VDS” plans with dedicated cores), Storage VPS, plus bare-metal Dedicated Servers. Below are the official list prices, what each term discount actually works out to, the extra fees for non-EU locations, and which tier fits which kind of project.

How Contabo prices work (read this first)

• Headline prices are 24-month rates. The big number on Contabo’s VPS, Storage VPS and VDS pages is “the effective monthly rate for a 24-month subscription”, labelled “for the first 24 months”. Monthly (1-month) contracts cost more; see the tables below.
• Term discounts: on Cloud VPS, Cloud VPS Plus and Cloud VDS, Contabo’s price data shows no discount on 1-, 3- or 6-month terms, 15% on 12 months and 20% on 24 months (the VDS FAQ states the same 15%/20%). Storage VPS also gets 10% on 6 months. Dedicated servers show 5% on 3 months and 10% on 12 months (15% for the AMD Ryzen 12 Cores offer); their headline price is the 12-month rate.
• Currency: you can pay in EUR, USD or GBP, and Contabo says your account is fixed to the currency you choose when ordering. The USD list price is not a straight conversion (e.g. Cloud VPS 4 is €5.50 or US$6.60 per month on a monthly term).
• VAT: the prices below are the catalog prices with no VAT applied. When you set your country on contabo.com, the matching VAT is added (Contabo’s country list shows, for example, Germany 19%, France 20%, Romania 21%, United Kingdom 20%).
• Location surcharges: the European Union location is included in the base price. Other regions (UK, US, Asia, Australia) add a monthly fee that depends on the plan; see the location table further down.

Core VPS (Cloud VPS 4–18): the budget workhorse

Best for: WordPress and other CMS sites, small web apps, self-hosted email or Nextcloud, staging servers and CI runners. Contabo positions Core VPS for “lighter, everyday workloads” on proven hardware across multiple CPU generations, virtualized with KVM. Every plan includes DDoS protection, a free firewall, a dedicated IPv4 and IPv6 address, unlimited incoming traffic and the Customer Control Panel. Auto Backup is a paid add-on.

Performance VPS (Cloud VPS Plus): EPYC and NVMe

Best for: databases, API services and production apps that are CPU- or disk-heavy but don’t need dedicated cores. Contabo describes Performance VPS as using “the latest generations of AMD EPYC CPUs, NVMe storage, and high bandwidth”. Moving from Core VPS to Performance VPS is a one-time migration, not an in-place upgrade, according to the Core VPS FAQ.

Max Performance VPS (Cloud VDS): dedicated cores without bare metal

Best for: production workloads where steady performance matters more than price, such as online stores, SaaS backends, real-time analytics or AI agent orchestration. Contabo says every Cloud VDS plan assigns AMD EPYC cores to your instance alone, with guaranteed RAM and NVMe storage, so “throughput stays consistent regardless of other activity on the same server”. Monthly contracts are available on every tier from S to XXL.

Storage VPS: lots of disk for backups and file hosting

Best for: off-site backups, archives, Nextcloud and other storage-heavy apps where CPU demand is modest. Contabo notes that Storage VPS plans are pre-configured: you cannot change the hardware specs of a plan, but you can upgrade to a bigger one. Storage VPS is the only family here with a 6-month discount.

Dedicated Servers: bare metal

Best for: workloads that need the whole machine – heavy databases, your own virtualization, compliance or hardware-specific needs. Contabo’s dedicated server page lists no setup fees, unlimited traffic (fair use) and IPMI (iLO) remote management. The headline price on that page is the effective monthly rate for a 12-month subscription.

Location surcharges (EUR per month, before VAT)

The EU location is included in every price above. Picking another region adds a fixed monthly amount that grows with the plan size. These are the surcharges shown for the entry plan of each family:

On the cheapest plans the surcharge matters a lot: a Cloud VPS 4 in Singapore costs €2.50 more per month than in the EU, on top of an €4.40 24-month base rate.

Which Contabo tier suits you?

• One or a few WordPress sites, a mail server or a dev box: Core VPS. Start with Cloud VPS 4 or 6 and upgrade in place if you outgrow it.
• A busy database or API that keeps the CPU and disk working: Performance VPS (Cloud VPS Plus) for EPYC and NVMe.
• Production apps where you can’t afford noisy neighbours: Cloud VDS, which Contabo describes as dedicated cores with guaranteed RAM.
• Backups, archives, Nextcloud: Storage VPS.
• Running your own virtual machines: Contabo says its VPS plans do not support nested virtualization, while Cloud VDS and dedicated servers do let you run your own VMs.
• Whole-machine control, special hardware or compliance: a dedicated server.

Caveats to check before you order

• Setup fees. Contabo’s VDS FAQ says a setup fee applies to the entry-level “Cloud VPS 10” and “Storage VPS 10” plans on 1-month and 6-month terms, and not to any plan on a 12-month contract or to any Cloud VDS plan. The fee amount is not shown on the pages we read, and the Cloud VPS plan names have since changed, so check the order summary on short terms. Dedicated servers list no setup fees.
• Renewal and contract length. Contabo lists a minimum initial term of 1 month, a following contract length equal to the initial term, and a cancellation notice of none (pre-paid) or 4 weeks (post-paid). The term discount is labelled “for the first 24 months” (or the term you pick), so check what the order page shows for renewal before committing.
• Unmanaged by default. Plans are unmanaged; a “Managed” option is listed as an add-on at €109.99/month on the plans we checked. Contabo says its support covers the server, network, hardware and initial setup of 1-click add-ons, while maintaining the software inside the server is your job. Contabo advertises 24/7 English-speaking support by phone and live chat.
• Traffic fair use. Incoming traffic is unlimited and unmetered; outgoing traffic is unlimited under a fair-use policy, and Contabo reserves the right to throttle exceptionally high or disruptive usage.
• Paid extras add up. Examples from the Cloud VPS 4 order options: Auto Backup €1.65/month, Windows Server €8.00/month, an additional IPv4 address €3.50/month, private networking €2.29/month, full monitoring €11.49/month. Prices for some add-ons differ by plan.
• VAT and currency. Add your country’s VAT to the figures above, and pick your billing currency carefully because the account stays in it.

What is the cheapest Contabo VPS in 2026?
Cloud VPS 4 (4 vCPU, 8 GB RAM, 100 GB SSD) at €5.50 per month on a monthly term, or €4.40 per month on a 24-month term, before VAT, in the EU location. Storage VPS 10 has the same price with 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM and 300 GB SSD (or 150 GB NVMe).

Are Contabo prices shown with VAT?
The catalog prices are without VAT. Contabo adds VAT based on the country you select in its locale settings.

Is there a setup fee?
According to Contabo’s VDS FAQ, a setup fee applies only to the entry-level “Cloud VPS 10” and “Storage VPS 10” plans on 1-month and 6-month terms (the fee amount isn’t listed there, so check your order summary); 12-month contracts and all Cloud VDS plans don’t. Dedicated servers list no setup fees.

What is the difference between Cloud VPS and Cloud VDS?
A Cloud VPS shares the host’s CPU and other resources with other customers. A Cloud VDS (Max Performance VPS) gets dedicated AMD EPYC cores and guaranteed RAM, which Contabo says gives more consistent performance.

Can I pay month to month?
Yes. Contabo lists a minimum initial contract length of 1 month on all these families. Longer terms are cheaper per month.

Does the server location change the price?
Yes. The EU location is included; UK, US, Asia and Australia add a monthly surcharge that depends on the plan (from €1.05/month on Cloud VPS 4 up to tens of euros on VDS and dedicated servers).

Can I upgrade later?
Core VPS can be upgraded in place from the Customer Control Panel. Moving to Performance VPS is a migration, and downgrades mean ordering the smaller plan and moving your data.
