VEVOR Thermal Imaging Camera Buying Guide (2026): Real Sensor Resolution vs “Super Resolution”, Nine Cameras from 157,90 € Compared

Affiliate disclosure: this post contains affiliate links to VEVOR’s European store (via Awin). If you buy through them, SiftGuide may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Every price and spec below comes from VEVOR’s own product pages, spec lists, review summaries and store policies, checked on October 31, 2026. We have not tested these cameras; specs and claims are as listed by the seller. Figures marked “our arithmetic” are our own calculations from those listed numbers.

EU store, euro prices. All links go to eur.vevor.com, VEVOR’s European store. Prices are in euros, VAT included, exactly as the store showed them on October 31, 2026 (captured 20:30–20:32 Romanian time), with Romania as the delivery country (the store’s default for us that day). All nine pages showed free shipping and “In Stock”; none had a timed deal. The most expensive one, the SC384M, was marked “Almost sold out”. Prices and stock change; the store’s basket has the final word.

Winter is when a thermal camera pays for itself: on a cold day with the heating on, it shows where warm air leaks out around windows and doors, where insulation is missing, which radiator is not heating through and where an underfloor pipe runs. VEVOR’s EU store had nine thermal cameras in stock on October 31, 2026, from 157,90 € to 1.449,90 €. The one number that matters most is the real resolution of the infrared sensor, and that is exactly the number many titles hide behind a bigger “Super Resolution” figure. We put the real sensor size first.

Safety first. A thermal camera only looks; it does not make electrical work safe. Scanning a fuse box or socket from a distance is fine, but opening panels or touching live parts is a job for an electrician. Shiny metal, glass and mirrors reflect heat and can show wrong temperatures, so read those spots with care.

* Our arithmetic: price divided by the number of real infrared pixels (width × height of the sensor as listed by VEVOR), per 1,000 pixels. Lower is better value for the sensor alone; it ignores screen, battery and extras.

Eight of these share one review pool on VEVOR’s pages (4.6 stars from 272 reviews), and the phone camera another (4.1 from 62), so those ratings are not per model. The handheld models list a −20 to 550 °C range (the SC204N: −20 to 400 °C).

Real sensor vs “Super Resolution”

A thermal camera’s image is built from its infrared sensor, and each pixel of that sensor measures one temperature. VEVOR’s cheaper models then use “TISR enhancement technology” to upscale the picture on screen. In VEVOR’s own words for the YXI96 Pro, it is “upgrading the original IR resolution of 96×96 to a super resolution of 240×180”. An upscaled image looks smoother, but it cannot add temperature detail the sensor never measured.

  • The YXI96 Pro title leads with “TISR Super Resolution 240×180”; its sensor is 96×96, or 9 216 real pixels. A real 240×180 sensor has about 4.7 times as many (our arithmetic).
  • The YXI160 and the YXI256 both say “320 x 240 TISR Super Resolution” in the title. Underneath, the YXI160 has 19 200 real pixels and the YXI256 49 152, about 2.56 times as many, for 84,00 € more (our arithmetic).
  • The SC240M PRO advertises “512 x 384 TISR Super Resolution” (“4 x Super Resolution”), but its sensor is the same 256×192 as the YXI256.

Rule of thumb: look for “Infrared Resolution” or “IR Resolution” in the spec list, not the number in the headline. In this line-up, only the SC384M has a sensor larger than 256×192.

Under 210 €: YXI96 Pro and YXI160

The YXI96 Pro (157,90 €) is the cheapest camera here: 96×96 sensor, ≤60 mK, a 2.4-inch screen, 8 GB of storage and a wide 50°×50° field of view. It is enough to spot a cold window frame or a warm pipe, but small details turn into blobs. For 45,00 € more, the YXI160 (202,90 €) has twice the real pixels (19 200), ≤40 mK, a 2.8-inch screen and 16 GB. Both list ±2 °C accuracy, a 2 MP visible camera, and high/low-temperature alarms.

The 240–290 € sweet spot

This is where the real sensor jumps to 240×180 or 256×192, and the price per real pixel drops to the lowest in the line-up (about 5.6–6.5 € per 1,000 pixels, our arithmetic).

  • SC204N (245,90 €): real 240×180, 40 mK, 2.8-inch screen, 32 GB card, four colour palettes. Its range stops at 400 °C, and its spec list names no visible-light camera, so no photo overlay.
  • SC240M (281,90 €): the same 240×180 sensor plus a 2 MP visible camera with “thermal, optical, fusion, and PIP” modes, a 64 GB card and 11 h battery life listed. That is 36,00 € more than the SC204N. A buyer in Croatia wrote that it is an excellent product for finding hot-water leaks (“Odličan proizvod za otkrivanje propušta tople vode”).
  • YXI256 (286,90 €): real 256×192, about 14% more pixels than the 240×180 pair for 5,00 € more than the SC240M (our arithmetic); ≤40 mK, 2.8-inch screen, 16 GB, ±2 °C. Our pick for most homes.

The phone camera (HT-W01)

The HT-W01 (274,90 €) has no screen of its own: it “can connect wirelessly to Android and IOS smartphone” and uses the phone as the display. VEVOR lists a 256×192 sensor, a 640×480 visible camera, a 56°×42° field of view and 0.1 °C sensitivity, at 250 g. Good if you always have your phone with you; less handy when your hands are full or the phone is on charge. At this price the YXI256 gives the same sensor size in a stand-alone camera for 12,00 € more.

390 € and up

  • SC240M PRO (389,90 €): the same 256×192 sensor as the YXI256, with a bigger 3.45-inch screen, 5000 mAh battery, 32 GB and 2×/4× digital zoom. You pay 103,00 € more for comfort, not for a sharper sensor.
  • SC256M (606,90 €): again 256×192, but with ≤35 mK, a 3.5-inch touch screen, Wi-Fi, a laser pointer and two 4500 mAh batteries. 320,00 € more than the YXI256 for a more professional body (our arithmetic).
  • SC384M (1.449,90 €, “Almost sold out”): the only bigger sensor, 384×288 (110 592 pixels, 2.25 times a 256×192), 30 Hz, ≤35 mK, manual focus, a 5 MP visible camera, laser pointer, 1×–8× digital zoom and voice notes. A tool for inspectors and electricians who write reports, not for a weekend draught hunt.

Using one at home in winter

  • Pick a cold day. Leaks and missing insulation show up best when it is much warmer inside than outside, so check in the evening or early morning with the heating on.
  • Scan from inside. Look along window frames, door seals, skirting boards, ceiling corners and sockets on outside walls; cold streaks point to draughts or gaps.
  • Radiators and floors. A radiator that is cold at the top needs bleeding; underfloor heating pipes show as warm lines, which helps before you drill.
  • Mind shiny surfaces. These models let you adjust emissivity (0.01–1.0 on most spec lists); bare metal and glass reflect heat, so a reading there can be far off.

Who each one is for

  • VEVOR YXI256 (286,90 €): for most homes: a real 256×192 sensor at the lowest price for that size in a stand-alone camera. Skip it if you want photo overlays; the SC240M has them.
  • VEVOR SC240M (281,90 €): for overlaying a normal photo on the thermal image, plus a big 64 GB card. Skip it if you only need the thermal view; the SC204N is 36,00 € cheaper.
  • VEVOR YXI160 (202,90 €): for a tight budget, finding draughts and warm pipes. Skip it if you want fine detail; the YXI256 has 2.56 times the pixels.
  • VEVOR HT-W01 (274,90 €): for phone users who want the smallest kit. Skip it if you want a camera that works without your phone.
  • VEVOR SC240M PRO (389,90 €): for a bigger screen and zoom on a 256×192 sensor. Skip it if you expect a sharper sensor; it is the same as the YXI256.
  • VEVOR SC384M (1.449,90 €): for professional inspections and reports. Skip it if you only check your own house.

FAQ

Which VEVOR thermal camera is cheapest?
The YXI96 Pro at 157,90 €, with a 96×96 sensor shown as “240×180” super resolution. Prices as shown on the EU store on October 31, 2026, VAT included.

Is “Super Resolution” the same as a higher-resolution sensor?
No. It is an upscaling of the image on screen; the temperatures still come from the real sensor. Compare the “Infrared Resolution” line in the spec list.

Which one is best value?
Per real pixel, the 240×180 and 256×192 models at 245,90 €–286,90 € (about 5.6–6.5 € per 1,000 pixels, our arithmetic). Our pick is the YXI256 at 286,90 €.

Can a thermal camera see through walls?
No. It sees the surface temperature of the wall. A warm pipe or a cold gap behind it changes that surface temperature, which is what you see.

Do I need a phone for the HT-W01?
Yes. It connects to an Android or iOS phone and uses it as the screen; the other eight have their own screens.
